Can lichen sclerosus spread to other areas?
Lichen sclerosus can affect multiple sites, especially the vulva, perianal area, and sometimes other skin. However, it is not contagious and does not spread by touch, but new patches can develop over time.
Detailed Medical Explanation
Most people have localised lichen sclerosus (genital or perianal), but up to 6% develop extragenital lesions on the trunk or limbs. These lesions are not dangerous but should be checked. Good management and regular skin checks are important. For more details, see NHS and BAD.
Clinical Context
Our clinic can advise on new symptoms or skin changes at any body site: Vulval Skin Conditions Clinic.
Evidence-Based Approaches
Lichen sclerosus does not spread person-to-person. For full guidelines, see NICE BNF.
