What to do before my treatment

Please read the general instructions first, then select your treatment below. These instructions are designed to help you prepare safely and comfortably before attending The Women’s Health Clinic.

Common instructions for all treatments

This page is designed to support your treatment preparation. It does not replace your consultation, medical assessment or personalised advice from your clinician.

Your clinician will confirm whether treatment is suitable for you after reviewing your medical history, symptoms, treatment area and any relevant safety factors.

Please do not stop any prescribed medication unless advised by your GP, specialist, prescribing clinician or the clinic team.

Important

Contact us before attending if you:

Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or think you may be pregnant.
Feel unwell, have a fever, or have an active infection.
Have new or unexplained bleeding, discharge, pain, soreness, ulcers, cuts, rash or irritation in the treatment area.
Have recently started antibiotics, steroids, blood thinners, isotretinoin, or immune-suppressing medication.
Have had recent surgery, a recent procedure in the same area, or a significant change in your medical history.

Vaginal PRP

Vaginal PRP uses a sample of your own blood, which is processed and used as part of your treatment. Preparation focuses on comfort, hydration and reducing avoidable bruising.

Essential

Contact us before attending if you have:

Active vaginal, urinary, vulval or pelvic infection symptoms.
New discharge, odour, itching, burning, soreness, ulcers, cuts, rash or unexplained bleeding.
Heavy period bleeding on the day of treatment.
Fever or you feel generally unwell.
A known bleeding disorder or are taking medication that affects bleeding or clotting.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding or possible pregnancy.
Preferred

Helpful preparation:

Stay well hydrated for 24–48 hours before treatment, as a blood sample is usually taken.
Eat normally before your appointment unless the clinic has told you otherwise.
Avoid excessive alcohol for 24–48 hours before treatment.
Avoid non-essential anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac or aspirin for a few days before treatment, unless medically needed.
Avoid non-essential supplements that may increase bruising, such as high-dose fish oil, vitamin E, garlic or ginkgo.
Attend freshly washed, wear comfortable underwear and loose clothing.
Do not apply creams, oils, perfumes or intimate products to the treatment area on the day.
Intercourse guidance
Sexual intercourse before treatment is not automatically a problem. Please avoid anything that causes soreness, irritation, bleeding or discomfort. If this happens, contact the clinic before attending.

Thrush, bacterial vaginosis symptoms, herpes outbreak, ulcers, cuts, rash, soreness or unexplained bleeding.
Recent illness, fever or you feel unwell.

A bleeding disorder or are taking blood-thinning medication.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding or possible pregnancy.
A previous serious reaction to dermal filler, local anaesthetic or injectable treatment.
Preferred

Helpful preparation:

Avoid alcohol for 24–48 hours before treatment.
Avoid non-essential anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac or aspirin for a few days before treatment, unless medically needed.

Avoid waxing, laser hair removal, depilatory creams or anything that irritates the treatment area for several days before treatment.

Intercourse guidance
Intercourse before vaginal filler is not automatically unsafe. The key issue is whether it causes irritation, soreness, swelling, bleeding or micro-trauma. If you feel sore, irritated or notice bleeding afterwards, please contact us before attending.

Your treatment may need to be postponed if it is safer to do so

Your treatment may need to be postponed if you attend with infection, irritation, unexplained symptoms, recent sun exposure, unsuitable medication history, or any factor that may increase risk. This is for your safety and to allow your clinician to confirm suitability properly. Educational only. Not a diagnosis or medical advice. Suitability is confirmed after consultation and assessment. Results vary. Not a cure.
