What does vaginal tissue look like immediately after laser treatment?
Immediately after vaginal laser treatment, the tissue may appear pink or mildly reddened, with some swelling and visible pinpoint dots where the laser has targeted the surface. This is a normal and temporary effect.
Detailed Medical Explanation
Vaginal mucosa immediately post-laser typically looks pink to red, slightly swollen (oedematous), and moist, often with small visible dots or lines from fractional laser pulses. This mild inflammation and the tiny pinpoint “microthermal zones” are expected signs of effective treatment and reflect controlled tissue renewal. There may also be slight oozing or minimal bleeding from some spots. These changes usually resolve within days. See more at NHS and RCOG.
Clinical Context
Visual effects are temporary and part of the normal healing process. If you have increased pain, unusual discharge, or heavy bleeding, contact your clinic.
Evidence-Based Approaches
Fractional CO2 and erbium lasers produce characteristic tissue effects visible on examination. These findings are normal and expected. For more, see BNF Menopause and NICE guidance.
