A new study is collecting menstrual-fluid samples and symptom information to build a large research biobank. By comparing data from many participants, researchers hope to understand heavy menstrual bleeding and related conditions more clearly.
A biobank is a resource for future analysis; it is not itself a diagnosis or a test currently offered in routine care. Research participation also may not provide an individual explanation for symptoms.
Heavy bleeding, flooding, clots, pain and fatigue can have a substantial impact now. Keep a symptom and bleeding record and discuss persistent or disruptive changes with an appropriate clinician while research continues.
