Polynucleotide treatment for intimate wellness Book Appointment

What Exactly Are Polynucleotides?

You've probably heard of DNA and RNA—well, they're both types of polynucleotides! The ones we use in cosmetic medicine come from highly purified fragments of DNA extracted from trout sperm (yes, the same trout you'd find at dinner!).

Here's the fascinating part: trout DNA is remarkably similar to human DNA, possessing a high degree of spectral compatibility. This is why it works so beautifully with our bodies, acting as a biocompatible agent rather than a foreign invader.

Is This Treatment Safe?

Absolutely. Safety is our top priority. The polynucleotides go through rigorous purification and sterilization processes from licensed sources. Production is heavily regulated and meets CE safety standards. Crucially, all protein molecules are completely removed during this process, which means there is virtually zero risk of allergic reactions (immunogenic response).

Clinical Evidence

The science backing this treatment is solid—there are numerous published studies demonstrating both safety and effectiveness, not just in aesthetic medicine but also in treating tissue injuries. In fact, there are no known long-term risks associated with these injections. Of course, your clinician will walk you through any temporary side effects you might experience (we'll cover those in the aftercare section).

What Can Polynucleotides Help With?

If you're experiencing any of these concerns, this treatment could be perfect for you:

Vaginal Dryness Affecting comfort and daily life due to lack of mucosal hydration.
Persistent Itchiness Chronic irritation of the vulvar tissue.
Vulvar Pain or Discomfort General sensitivity or localized pain in the intimate area.
Dyspareunia Clinically defined as painful or difficult sexual intercourse.
Loss of Elasticity Laxity in intimate tissues due to aging or hormonal changes.
Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) A comprehensive term for symptoms related to decreased estrogen.

How Does It Actually Work?

Clinical Insight: Cellular Biostimulation

Think of polynucleotides as messengers that wake up your body's natural healing abilities. They stimulate specific receptors on your cells, triggering a cascade of positive physiological effects:

  • Fibroblast Activation: Your fibroblast cells—the repair crew—get a boost, producing more collagen and elastin (the building blocks of firm, healthy tissue).
  • Hydration Synthesis: It increases hyaluronic acid production, acting as nature's moisture magnet.
  • Angiogenesis: The creation of new, healthy micro-blood vessels improves circulation and oxygenation to the tissue.
  • Homeostasis: It regulates water balance to keep tissues hydrated at a cellular level.

This isn't new science, either. Polynucleotides have been used successfully in regenerative medicine for tissue repair after injuries and surgeries for years.

What Happens During Treatment?

The polynucleotides come in various strengths suspended in water, ready for injection into the superficial layer of your skin (intradermal). Your clinician uses a very fine needle to deliver multiple tiny doses precisely where they're needed.

The treatment plan: We recommend a course of five sessions, spaced 2-3 weeks apart, to achieve optimal results. Think of it like building a foundation—each treatment adds another layer of improvement.

When Will I See Results?

Here's where patience pays off! This isn't an instant transformation, but rather a beautiful, gradual improvement due to the biological time required for collagen synthesis. You'll typically notice changes starting around the three-week mark, with continued enhancement over twelve weeks.

What can you expect? Most patients report their skin feels smoother, better hydrated, and more elastic. Dryness improves significantly, itchiness reduces, and even scarring can become less deep, smaller, and better blended in color.

Keep in mind that everyone's body responds a bit differently—your results depend on your individual biological response and lifestyle factors.

How Long Do Results Last?

Results vary from person to person, but we generally recommend a maintenance treatment every six months to keep things looking and feeling their best. Your lifestyle choices definitely play a role in longevity too!

If you decide not to continue with maintenance treatments, don't worry—your skin will simply return to its pre-treatment state over time. Nothing permanent happens if you stop.

Planning Your Schedule

Let's be realistic about recovery time. Most patients experience only minor side effects, but it's smart to plan accordingly:

  • First 12-24 hours: You may have visible bumps (papules) under the skin.
  • Up to 5 days: Small pinprick marks or scabs might be visible.
  • Up to 2 weeks: Any bruising should completely resolve.

Important Restrictions (72 Hours)

To prevent infection and excessive trauma to the treated area, adhere to these rules for 72 hours post-treatment:

  • Hygiene: Use only mild intimate cleansers.
  • Intimacy: No sexual intercourse.
  • Physical Activity: No biking or horse riding (to avoid friction and pressure).
  • Other Procedures: Don't schedule this treatment when you have other procedures, medical treatments, vaccinations, or surgery planned without discussing it with your clinician first.

Are You a Good Candidate?

Your clinician will take a thorough medical history to ensure there's nothing that might increase your risk of side effects. This consultation is also the perfect time to discuss your expectations and make sure this treatment can deliver what you're hoping for.

Will It Hurt?

Let's be honest—treatment can be uncomfortable. But we've got you covered! We'll apply a topical anesthetic cream before treatment to numb the area and keep you as comfortable as possible.

Preparing for Your Treatment Day

Essential Prep Steps

  • Waxing or Shaving: You'll need to wax or shave the treatment area the day before your appointment.
  • Skip the Wine: Avoid alcohol the night before—it acts as a vasodilator and significantly increases bruising risk.

Don't Forget To Bring

  • Reading glasses (you'll need to sign consent forms).
  • White cotton underwear (patient-recommended for comfort!).
  • Leave piercings at home, or bring a small purse to store them safely.

Medications & Supplements to Pause (24 Hours Prior)

Hold off on these to minimize bruising/bleeding risk:

Aspirin/Ibuprofen St. John's Wort Fish oils Ginkgo Biloba Vitamins C and E

Make Sure You're Healthy

Contact the clinic before your appointment if you have:

  • A vaginal infection
  • Recently started hormone replacement therapy
  • Any illness (colds, coughs, sore throats, etc.)
  • A new diagnosis or medications
  • A new injury requiring pain medication

Aftercare: Your Recovery Roadmap

You can continue with most normal activities, but specific care is required to ensure the best results.

What are the immediate side effects?
You'll likely see small bumps just under the skin that may take 3-12 hours to settle. Redness, pinprick marks, swelling, and possibly bruising are all normal. Swelling typically resolves within 48 hours, though bruising might look worse the next day and can take 10-14 days to completely fade.
First 6 Hours: Infection Prevention
  • Keep your hands clean and avoid touching the treated area.
  • Don't wash with harsh cleansers.
  • No picking or scratching!
First 12-24 Hours
Skip the aspirin and alcohol—they can make swelling and bruising worse by thinning the blood.

Until Everything Settles

Avoid extremes of temperature (very hot or cold environments) and skip vigorous exercise until swelling, bruising, or tenderness has resolved.

Pro Tips for Comfort

  • Cold packs can reduce swelling (never apply ice directly to skin!).
  • Arnica or bromelain supplements may help clear bruising faster.
  • Tenderness should improve as swelling goes down.

When to Reach Out

If you experience any symptoms that concern you or if things get worse rather than better after 12 hours, please don't hesitate to contact the clinic. We're here to support you through the entire process!
